The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the UN’s central platform for monitoring, reviewing, and accelerating progress on the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Established in 2012 at the Rio+20 Conference through the outcome document “The Future We Want”, the HLPF officially launched in July 2013, replacing the former Commission on Sustainable Development.
Each year, the HLPF brings together governments, civil society, experts, and stakeholders to assess SDG progress, share best practices, and strengthen global cooperation through Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) and thematic discussions. The forum ensures inclusive, science-based, and evidence-driven dialogue, guided by annual and quadrennial review cycles.
