The 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was held from Monday, 14 July to Wednesday, 23 July 2025, and was led by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). A special ministerial session was held during the last three days, from 21 to 23 July, as part of ECOSOC’s high-level meetings.
The main theme of the 2025 forum was:
“Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring no one is left behind.”
This means the forum focused on using science and facts to find fair and lasting solutions to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, making sure everyone benefits.
The forum took a closer look at the progress of these five Sustainable Development Goals:
More than 100 ministers and top government leaders took part in the forum. There were also participants from the United Nations, universities, civil society, and other expert groups. In total, over 800 people joined the event, including 300 young people.
Many countries also shared their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), which showed how they are working to reach the SDGs in their own countries.
