In 2015, the United Nations introduced the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes SDG 7, a goal focused on making sure everyone has access to affordable, reliable, clean, and modern energy.Energy is essential to reaching both the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.. Achieving SDG 7 can improve the lives of millions of people by creating jobs, helping women, children, and youth, and providing better education, healthcare, and stronger communities. It also helps protect the planet and fight climate change.
To support faster progress on SDG 7, a Global Roadmap was created during the High-level Dialogue on Energy in 2021. This roadmap guides joint action across different sectors.
The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) supports this work by helping with international energy discussions, giving policy advice, and building skills and knowledge.
DESA also acts as the Secretariat for UN-Energy, brings together the SDG 7 Technical Advisory Group, and supports the development of Energy Compacts.
In Malaysia, 17 SDG actively supports these goals by raising awareness, promoting action, and encouraging partnerships to help the country move toward clean and sustainable energy for all.
